In a way, as artists, we make up a garden, a collection of fruit-bearing plants that’s beautiful because of its variety of forms. As faithful, fruit-bearing plants in the garden, we treat our audience and ourselves to beauty in an ever-changing and ever-expressive way.
On just about any Sunday at The Austin Stone we make a concerted effort to construct our entire campus environment to be beautiful but minimal and not distracting. We do that so our people will notice what they came to notice: the band leading them to sing to God, the pastors leading them to hear from God, and one other.
If all we hear after our work during a Sunday service is personal praise, then we have fallen short of true service to our God, which is to lead people in worship of Jesus for who He is and for what He has done.
